Lucifer's Rants: How I Made a Bookstore Sales Lady Have A Panic-attack

Hi everyone, this is a topic I started here at Angelic Reviews. It's called Lucifer's Rants, named after the fallen angel Lucifer himself, where I talk about a certain topic that's on my mind and is book related. I hope you enjoy.

Onto today's topic.

How I Made a Bookstore Lady Have a Panic-attack

Before I tell my story, we need a little bit of background knowledge. Have you guys read the book Dead of Winter by Kresley Cole? It looks like this:
If you haven't, don't worry I won't reveal any spoilers. But if you have, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

So for those of you who haven't read the book yet. It was supposed to be the last book in the Aracana Chronicles series. I don't know if this was the author's original plan or if there just was never an update on Goodreads, but I believed this was the last book until this happened.

This book leaves off with a HUGE cliffhanger. Honestly, it's one of the biggest cliffhangers I've ever seen in my life.

So I started freaking out saying "No way this is the ending. At least not to a series." I went and checked Goodreads, still no news of a fourth book in the series. I decided to check the page numbers, and Goodreads said that the book should have 330 pages. Yet my copy only had 303 pages.

I was so angry with the book I stormed over to my local bookstore. I went up to the counter and told the sales lady that there was a problem with my book. This is how the conversation went.

Me: "Hi, I recently bought a book here, and theres a small problem with it. It's missing the last 27 pages."

Saleslady #1: "Oh no, I'm really sorry about that. What book is it?"

Me: "Dead of Winter by Kresley Cole."

Saleslady #1: "WHAT? DON'T TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT IT, I STILL HAVEN'T READ IT. KAREN COME HELP THIS YOUNG LADY BECAUSE I CANT EVEN.. I JUST CANT!"

Saleslady #2: "What's the problem?"

Saleslady #1: "HER KRESLEY COLE BOOK IS MISSING PAGES! YOU HAVE TO DO IT, I DONT EVEN WANT TO TOUCH THAT BOOK UNTIL I FINISH IT!"

Saleslady #2: "Okay.."

So after looking online, and looking at my book, she sees that it is in fact missing pages. She goes to look at all the other books they have on display and they all contain exactly 303 pages.

Saleslady #1: "WAIT DOES THAT MEAN MY BOOK IS MISSING THE ENDING. I CANT DO THIS ANYMORE KAREN. THIS IS THE LAST BOOK AND I NEED TO READ THE ENDING. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO NOW! THIS IS MT FAVOURITE SERIES BY MY FAVOURITE AUTHOR. I THINK IM GOING TO CRY!" *breathing heavily*

Saleslady #2: "Hold on, let me just check the authors Facebook page to see if this happened to anyone else. Oh wait... Yeah the author plans on releasing a fourth book to finish off the series. And she cut out the last few pages and decided to elongate it for the fourth book."

Saleslady #1: "THANK YOU JESUS! I THINK I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK! PLEASE DON'T EVER SCARE ME LIKE THAT AGAIN..... KAREN I'M TAKING MY BREAK.. I NEED SOME AIR BEFORE I FAINT!"

After getting my book back, and talking to Karen about terrible books. I went in search of new books in the store, let's be honest you can't walk into a bookstore and not buy a book. As I was checking out with my brand new purchase, the mall security guy walks up to Karen and tells her that Saleslady #1 is outside in her uniform (short-sleeve shirt, and it was like -30 Celsius outside) and she's refusing to come back in because she can't look at books right now.

So Karen asked me to stay and watch the store for a little bit as she went outside to get Saleslady #1. She ended up sending her home because she wasn't in a fit condition to work anymore.

I honestly feel so bad. I didn't realize that she would freak out so bad. I thought I was angry at the huge cliffhanger the book left off, but she was a million times worse.

I have my fingers crossed for her to get back to normal, and hopefully finish the book eventually.

So take this as a warning from me. Don't go barging into bookstores complaining about the ending of a book until you're certain its the last one.

Lets hear your craziest bookstore story. Let me know in the comments below.

Lucifer's Rants: Why I Vow to Never Use the Library Again

Hi everyone, this is a fairly new topic I started here at Angelic Reviews. It's called Lucifer's Rants, named after the fallen angel Lucifer himself, where I talk about a certain topic that's on my mind and is book related. I hope you enjoy.

Onto today's topic.

Why I Vow to Never Use the Library Again.

For those of you who don't know me too well, I loved my local public library. I usually went there at least once a week, whether it was to do homework or actually go and check out some books. I had my library code memorized and the librarians all knew who I was.

A few weeks ago, I went to the library and found a copy of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, I've heard some amazing things about this book so I decided to check it out. Everything went normally, I checked the book out, read the book, reviewed it right here on Angelic Book Reviews and then I went to return it.

On the day that I was returning a few books, it was raining outside. I had to walk about 3 minutes to get to the library from where I parked. I tried to cover up the books the best I could to protect it from the rain. Since the library was closed that day, I returned tbem through one of the return slots that all libraries offer, and then left.

A few days later I get an email from the library saying that the copy of Fangirl I returned is highly damaged and that I have to pay the library $30 CAD within 14 days or it will be sent to a collecting agency.

As someone who treats all their books like their own children I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Not only do I treat all of my library books the same way I would treat my own books, but it also makes me extremely sad when I see library books in terrible condition. This came as a shock to me.

So today, when I went to go pay the library that money, I tried to explain to them that I'd never do such a thing and that when I returned the book it was in perfect condition. All they said to me was that they have no proof that I didn't do it, so I had to pay them either way. As I gave them the money they asked for, one of the kind librarians asked if I wanted to keep the copy of the book since they had no use for it anymore.

When I took the book in my hands, this is what I saw.

First of all, I'm pretty sure its impossible for 3 minutes of light rain to do this much damage to a book.
Secondly, I've seen library books who are 10 times worse than this book. I even checked out a library book once that was so damaged it was missing pages and it was a hundred times more crinkled than that.
And lastly, as I opened up the front cover to reveal the price of this book and it was $21.99 CAD, so why on earth did I have to pay $30 to cover the charges for this book. There is no way the library got the book for that much, even if they pre-ordered it or had to pay for shipping or something, that price is way too high.

Feeling completely cheated and scammed by my library. I returned all my books, even the ones I haven't had a chance to read yet, and I vow to never ever set foot in that library ever again.

From now on I shall either buy my own books, and if I don't want to spend all that money on them then I will either buy them on my kindle or borrow books form my friends.

Lucifer's Rants: Sex in YA books

Hi everyone, this is a new topic I decided to start here at Angelic Reviews. It's called Lucifer's Rants, named after the fallen angel Lucifer himself, where I talk about a certain topic that's currently bothering me and has something to do with reading. So enjoy.

Onto today's topic.

Sex in Young-Adult books

So recently I read a book called The Infinite Moment of Us by Lauren Myracle. I found this book in the Young-Adult isle at my local book store and I decided to pick up a copy. I was absolutely shocked when the two main characters had sex in the book. I'm not talking about how Bella and Edward had sex in Breaking Dawn where they hinted at it but Stephanie actually didn't write about it. This was the opposite, I'm talking crazy details here, from beginning to end. Like and adult novel. I was sure this must have been a mistake and there's no way that this book could be for young adults, but after checking on Goodreads, my worst nightmare was confirmed that this was meant for teens to read.

It's very obvious to society that teens and pre-teens are becoming more sexual. Not only are they dressing more maturely, but they're also having intercourse much much sooner. I still consider myself a young-adult, but even I can tell the difference. When I was in grade 6 all the girls dressed like boys, with those big clunky skater shoes and oversized hoodies. Now when I walk by my old school, I see all the little kids wearing crop tops and short shorts. And the shocking thing is that I was in grade 6, only 6 years ago. I know trends change fast but going from hiding under your clothes to not wearing any... Damn.

In my opinion, I feel like the media is telling kids that its okay to dress this way and be sexually active. I even expect this from music videos and movies now. What I didn't expect is to find this problem even in books. Books have always been that one place where I could escape this crazy trend, and focus on the adventure in the story. I feel like romance is definitely necessary in books, but sex is a little too much. We all love those little romances, like Katniss and Peeta or Tris and Four, but we never even hear about them having sex. I don't know about you, but to me it would ruin the book if Katniss and Peeta started getting it on by the beach in the quarter quell. Now that would be weird and unnecessary.

Anyways, what I'm trying to get at is, sex shouldn't be presented in young-adult books. Not only are we teaching the younger generation that its okay to do, but its also something that doesn't need to be included, and could easily ruin a good book.
What do you guys think? Do you think it's okay if Young Adult books have detailed sex in them, and and they should follow society, or that its a bad thing?
