Clear Your TBR Pile Challenge Update

So my goal for this challenge was to read ten books and reduce my TBR by a third. So I actually bought more books, so my TBR is now even bigger. Not to mention this is the half-way post and I've only read 3 books towards my goal. I guess its not too bad, but I still need a lot of catching up to do.

I'm currently half way through my fourth book, which is The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson. I'm pretty sure I can finish this one by the end of tonight, and hopefully get going on my next book which is going to be Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead <3

My Rating: 4/5 stars

My Review: Alienated is the suspense packed, alien love story of the year. Not only does it keep you guessing, but it has a fierce female lead and a sexy alien exchange student. Easily a perfect book for all YA fans.

Cara does not back down from anything. So when she's approached with a generous scholarship offer, as long as she lets an Alien shadow her around all day, she obviously accepts. Yet Cara's friends are not so open to a L'eihr 'hanging out' with their friend, Cara is left with a choice between the scholarship of her dreams, or her best friends.

Cara Sweeney is one of the most well-rounded characters I have ever come across. Not only is she brilliantly smart, but she also has her mind set to be the best there is in everything she does. I absolutely love characters like Cara, its so nice to see such a determined person, rather than having a 'Bella' character who only looks for love. 
Throughout the story we get to see Cara develop as a character, and let me tell you, once this girl sets her mind on something, there's nothing she won't do to finish her task and do the right thing.

Who doesn't love a mysterious bad boy, who ends up being all cute and in love. That's why Aelyx is one of the hottest male (alien) characters I have ever come across. Sure he may not have too many emotions at the beginning, but we definitely get to see him grow, open up to the family and change his views about Earth and the people that live on it. He's super smart, very sexy and did I mention mysterious?? 

The world-building in this story is very well written. There were some areas where the author just skimmed past, but most of the places were very well explained. 

I was really stuck between giving this book a four or a five, but I ended up giving it a four over a few small reasons. First, I would have liked the mystery part of what Aelyx was doing on Earth to stay a mystery a little longer. This was one of the parts that made him hotter as a character, and kept the reader interested in the book just so they can find out whats going on. Secondly, I would have liked to see more out of Cara. We get this whole spiel in the beginning of the book how she's valedictorian and leader of the debate committee, yet throughout the book we didn't really see her excel much, most of her thoughts were about Aelyx, and while that might be nice for the romance aspect, I felt like we kind of missed out on some character development there.
I know these may seem like a few minor things, but I honestly would have like the book much more if it was a tad different. 
Please keep in mind that these are my personal preferences, and its just me being extremely picky.

I absolutely can't wait to read the next book in the series, and continue on the adventure with Cara and Aelyx. They have definitely grown on me.
I highly recommend this book to all YA fans, especially those Paranormal and Fantasy lovers. Alienated is a story you definitely don't want to miss.

My Rating: 5/5 stars

My Review: 

“The fault is not in our stars," I whispered to the ceiling. "But in ourselves. This was my choice.” 

Something Strange and Deadly is the perfect romantic mystery that keeps you on your toes throughout the whole ride. With lovable characters and picturesque world-building, this book is pure perfection.

The Dead are coming back to life, and when one of them brings Eleanor a letter from her brother, she knows that he's in trouble and she has to come to his rescue. But when her mom releases an evil spirit that's coming after her, she has to find help from the mysterious Spirit-Hunters.

Eleanor is such a strong character, I honestly love reading books where the main character knows not only how to be a bad-ass and stand up for herself, but also use her 'womenly' charms to get what she wants. Eleanor is smart, funny and brave. She's every girl's role model.

The world-building in this story is down right perfection. The author gives us enough detail to know how everything looks, but not so much detail that it makes the book boring. It has the perfect balance and I couldn't be any more impressed. 

The plot, the characters, the world-building and the writing are all just perfect. There's tons of action where you can't put the book down, and I wouldn't have changed a thing in this book. I highly recommend this to everyone, especially fans of the Infernal Devices, and the Walking Dead.

Hi guys, so as you know I'm doing 3 different challenges this year, throughout the whole year just to stay motivated with my reading. As well as a Summer Reading Challenge. Here is my progress for June and July since I missed my post last month.

My Rating: 4/5 stars

My Review: Deep Blue is the first book in a brand new series about 6 young mermaids, who must overcome their differences and work together in order to save the underwater world.

I definitely had mixed emotions about this book. I could not get into it at all in the beginning. I would read a few pages and then give up until I got about a third into the book. The first third of the book is not only confusing, but I also found it to be quite pointless. There is lots of different language and strange words that the author uses, which makes it hard to understand and follow. 
Not only that, but the first part of the book follows Sera's life as a princess and what her ceremony is about and her engagement. Then after the first third of the book is over, that part becomes unimportant. I feel like it was a waste of time for the author to write it and for the reader to read it, if it didn't make a difference in the story.

After you pass the first part of the book, then it starts to get a little interesting. You travel along with Sera and Neela as they try to escape the people who destroyed her town. On their journey they discover more about their prophecy and what they must do. 

I found this plot to be a little cliché and predictable. It was still better than the first half of the book by a landslide, but it definitely could have been improved.

Serafina's character was okay. I definitely liked the princess, but I wouldn't say I loved her. I do like that she's considered the 'leader' of the group, but I still found her to be a little too childish and naive. 

What I did like about the book is that it was more focused on friendship rather than romance, you don't see that very often and it was a nice change.

Overall, this book could have had some major improvements, but it was still an okay book to read. I will be continuing on the series when the other books come out.

My Rating: 5/5 stars

My Review: This book was fantastic in every way possible! It definitely blew my mind away, with crazy twists and turns, action and adventure around every corner. This book will go down as one of the best in 2014.

Lia is a princess, but she doesn't want to be. When her parents force her into an arranged marriage with a prince she’s never met before, Lia decides that it’s in her best interest to run away. With her best friend Pauline, she escapes to a nearby town. Yet it’s not that easy for a wanted princess to escape, she soon finds herself in the presence of an assassin who’s on a mission to kill her, and the heartbroken prince she’s never met before. As Lia starts her new life, she has to watch out not only for her safety but also for the two strange boys who are head-over-heels in love with her.

Lia’s character is one of the most lovable characters I have ever encountered. Not only is she outspoken (meaning she doesn't take crap from anyone) but she’s also caring, determined and hardworking. I honestly wish that she was a real person so that I could become best friends with her. Even though Lia is a princess, she would rather be a normal girl and earn her keep rather than be given everything. She’s not snobby like most princesses are, she’s the complete opposite. Even though she can be a little naïve at times, she’s still very intellectual when it comes to survival. Her character is honestly perfect, and I wouldn't change a thing about her.

I’m guessing that when you read the synopsis for this book, you immediately thought something like “Oh no, not another love-triangle!” Well don’t worry, because even though it seems like this book has one, it does not!

Our two main boys, Kaden and Rafe are hot as hell. Both these boys are muscular, handsome and not to mention smart and skilled in battle. As these two fight over Lia’s attention, they also help protect her from some of the danger she gets herself into. In the beginning I couldn't decide who I liked more. I love the idea of assassins and find them very interesting, but the idea of a prince running away from his kingdom just to find out about the girl who wouldn't marry him seemed really sweet and cute. In the end I picked a favorite, but let me tell you it was hard, because they are both such good characters.

When it comes to world-building, this book does not lack in it at all. All of the settings were described in such detail that I honestly could picture every moment in my head like a movie. This book definitely has one of the best worlds I have ever read about, and I definitely wish I could live in it.
Overall, this book is absolutely amazing! I feel like anyone who reads this book can easily fall in love with it because it has so many great aspects to it. I wish I read this book much sooner, and I will be recommending it to everyone I meet.

My Review: Geek Girl is the funniest and cutest book I have read in the longest time. Not only did this book make me laugh out loud, but it also shares some pretty good life lessons while doing so.

This new series starts off with out lovable Geek named Harriet, almost destroying half of the mall, and getting discovered by a modeling agent. Harriet knows that modeling isn't for her, but when her life starts going down the drain, she decides that maybe modeling could be her one chance at changing her life.

Harriet is such a hilarious character. She's very geeky with her all knowing facts and millions of lists, yet she is so relatable that I feel like we all have a little Harriet in us all. You just can't help but fall in love with her.

This book is going on my favorites list, I have never in my life come across a book that makes me actually put it down because I'm laughing so hard I can't read, and that's exactly what this book did. From Harriet's witty comments to her super funny family. 

This is such an enjoyable story that its honestly fit for all ages, I even gave it to my mom to read and she loved every single part of it.

Also, if you ever need a pick me up. This is the book to go to. It will make you laugh instantly and help you forget about your day.

I can't tell you how much I recommend this book. I already made most of my family read it, and now I'm telling you to read it too. No matter what type of books you like, or how old you are, this books is fit for all.
